Sander Gelsing is a lawyer and a registered Canadian patent and trade-mark agent.
He heads the firm's intellectual property law practice - working in the area of patents, trade-marks, copyrights, industrial designs, trade-secrets and other forms of intellectual property.
Sander also publishes a weblog, commenting on various Canadian patent, trade-mark and copyright issues.

Qualifications:
Sander holds degrees in law (LL.B), science (B.Sc.) and arts (B.A.) and has a technical background in computers and electronics. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of British Columbia. His practice is restricted to intellectual property law, patents, trade-marks, copyright and related litigation.
Mr. Gelsing is a registered Trade-mark Agent practicing before both the Canadian and U.S. Trademark Offices. He prepares trade-mark applications and deals with both CIPO and the USPTO when responding to office actions (i.e. trade-mark prosecution).
Sander is also a registered Canadian and United States Patent Agent and has in-depth experience with patent drafting and patent prosecution - with both Canadian and U.S. patent applications.
Biography:
Sander was born in Europe; specifically the Netherlands, or Holland as it is sometimes known. When he was 11 years old Sander moved to Canada with his family - arriving at Lomond, Alberta, a small rural farming community just east of Vulcan. Sander and his family stayed for about five years in Lomond. He is still fluent in Dutch.
In the mid 1980's Sander moved to Red Deer, where he attended high school at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive and studied biological sciences at Red Deer College. During that time, and in addition to his studies, Sander also worked at the down-town Husky gas station, at Olympia Fitness (a fitness gym off of 67th Street), at the Sheffield and Sons in the Bower Mall and at Collicutt Mechanical Services.
After Red Deer College, Sander moved to Calgary where he received two undergraduate degrees from the University of Calgary - a B.Sc. in animal biology and then a B.A. in geography and philosophy. While studying at the University of Calgary, Sander worked at a variety of retail jobs and as a tree-planter and crew foreman up in northern Alberta and B.C. for four years during the summer seasons. More importantly, while in Calgary, Sander met his wife-to-be Julie.
Sander and Julie moved to Victoria, B.C. where Sander obtained his Law degree from the University of Victoria. During law school Sander worked as a research biologist for a professor back in Calgary, as a researcher for a geography professor at the University of Victoria, and incorporated his own website design company. After obtaining his law degree Sander with a prestigious law firm in down-town Victoria.
Sander was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2001. After that he relocated back to Alberta to train under the mentorship of a patent agent and lawyer at a boutique intellectual property law firm, in downtown Calgary, for about two years. He was subsequently called to the Alberta Bar.
